Music and Sound in the Arts.

Sound.......I'm not talking about choreographed katas, form or whatever music you can rock out or jam to while your getting your sweat on!  I'm referring to sound which can help you find that elusive rhythm.  It can be the key to a technique or a combination of them. It can quicken your pace or heart rate as well as slow or calm you. An instructor can use it to teach you the proper cadence of a form. You can use it to develop your own personal rhythm. Classical music like Mozart can help stimulate creativity and open the mind achieving greater understanding. Capoeira uses it for the jenga. I believe that music and sound is an untapped, or at least, not often tapped into tool that can aid students and instructors alike.
That brings me to another topic along those lines,Color and Aroma. I remember back in the day when my Sifu regularly burned incense at the beginning of class. There may be more than ceremonial reasons for it! Here is some of what I've found. Aromatherapy
Defined:
There are approximately 300 essential oils that can be used to impact the body medicinally and cosmetically.  These essential oils are produced by distilling the extracts from trees, shrubs, herbs, grasses and flowers (any live plant).  Though typically they are inhaled or placed onto the body, there are some cases, under supervision, that they are ingested.  However, ingestion changes the chemical components due to the gastrict juices emitted from the gut.  Consequently, changing the outcome and effect of the essential oils and thereby typically not the preferred method of use.  Through bodily application (topical) or inhalation within the environment, which can include diffusers, incense, wood, water, humidifiers, light bulbs, candles, etc one can attain the best results.  Upon inhalation, the essential oils affect the olfactory and limbic (emotional brain) systems and then elicit a response by the mind, body and spirit.  Based upon which essential oils used, a particular effect can be targeted to project a specific outcome.  Essential oils are not to be taken lightly in that they can be extremely potent.  For example, oregano essential oil is twenty six times more antiseptic than phenol, the chemical used in commercial cleaners.
